Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc wins a “Britain’s Most Admired Companies” award
Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc has, for the third year running, been voted top of its sector (Engineering & Machinery) in the Britain’s Most Admired Companies (BMAC) awards, and has been recognised as Britain’s 12th most admired company.
Britain's Most Admired Companies awards are based on the results of an independent survey, conducted by Echo Research. Using responses from Board level representatives, as well as analysts and City commentators, the survey is a peer review of corporate reputation. The survey covers more than 250 companies, up to 10 of the largest listed firms in each of the 25 sectors. Companies are ranked on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being poor, 10 being excellent) in 12 criteria such as quality of management; financial soundness; quality of products and services; ability to attract, retain and develop top talent; value as a long-term investment; innovation; and corporate governance.
Spirax Sarco was ranked amongst the top 10 firms in Britain in four of these measures: Quality of management (#7); Quality of products & services (#8); Ability to attract, retain and develop top talent (#8); and Inspirational leadership (#9).

Spirax-Sarco China wins “British Company of the Year Award”
Spirax-Sarco Engineering (China) Ltd has won the prestigious “British Company of the Year Award” at an award ceremony in Beijing, hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce in China.
The “British Company of the Year Award” recognises British organisations in China that exemplify the UK’s commitment to developing sustainable business and cultural relations between the UK and China.
The judges look for evidence of: a long-term commitment to building a sustainable business in China; an innovative approach to the running of the business, or a unique corporate strategy that sets the company apart; products or services tailored specifically to the Chinese market; active support of the development of UK-China relations; an open and inclusive working environment with provisions made to embrace British and Chinese working cultures; engagement in community initiatives or a commitment to corporate social responsibility; and an exemplary CSR policy in action.
The winning entry was selected by a combination of a judging panel, online votes and an advisory panel, with voting audited by KPMG.
The history of Spirax Sarco in China:
Senior managers from Spirax Sarco first visited China in 1977. A sales office was opened in Shanghai in 1992, and Spirax-Sarco Engineering (China) Ltd was formed in 1995 as one of the first wholly owned foreign enterprises in the country. A factory and offices were opened in Shanghai in 1998, being replaced by a new factory in 2010. The plant was further expanded in 2017. The company now employs nearly 500 people and has over 40 regional offices across China.
Spirax-Sarco Ltd (UK) receives RoSPA Gold Award for health and safety practices
Spirax-Sarco Ltd (Spirax Sarco), based in Cheltenham, has achieved a Gold award in the internationally-renowned RoSPA Health and Safety Awards, the longest-running industry awards scheme in the UK, in recognition of its practices and achievements in helping its employees, visitors and contractors get home safely at the end of each working day. The company will be presented with the award during a ceremony in Glasgow on Thursday, 13th September, 2018.
The RoSPA Awards scheme, recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, said: “The RoSPA Awards are the most highly-respected in the health and safety arena, with almost 2,000 entrants every year, and allow organisations to prove excellence in the workplace, demonstrating a commitment to the wellbeing of not only employees but all those who interact with it.”
he awards are non-competitive and mark achievement at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Gold medals are presented to organisations sustaining the high standards of the gold level over consecutive years.

Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc wins Company of the Year Award
At an awards ceremony held in Bristol on 28th June 2018, Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc received Insider Media’s “Company of the Year Award” and was shortlisted as a finalist for the “International Innovation Award”, in the organisation’s annual South West International Trade Awards.
The awards recognise the region’s top exporters and importers, and the judging panel comprised industry experts from a number of organisations, including the Department for International Trade and the Confederation of British Industry.
Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc reported revenue of £998.7 million in 2017, with 90% of turnover generated outside of the UK. The Company has an international presence, with 114 operating units in 47 countries, sales offices in an additional 15 countries and distributors in a further 54 countries.
During 2017, Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc made two significant acquisitions of international businesses: German steam specialist Gestra, acquired in May for €186 million, and USA-based electrical thermal energy solutions provider Chromalox, acquired in July for US$415 million. Both of these companies will provide opportunities for growth as Spirax Sarco invests to internationalise their global presence.
The Company continues to invest in market penetration for its existing businesses and since January 2017 has opened new operating companies in Kenya, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Hungary, Romania, Malaysia, the Maghreb and the UAE, as well as establishing a direct sales presence in Greece and Sri Lanka.

Watson-Marlow Limited receives a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2018
Watson-Marlow Limited has been honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2018, for the development of its Qdos pump technology; the world’s first self-contained, chemical metering pump. The Queen’s Award recognises world class innovation combined with strong evidence of five years of sustained sales.
Qdos pumps provide more accurate, linear and repeatable metering than conventional diaphragm metering pumps and feature a single, no-tools component change with integral leak detection, reducing process downtime and lowering the overall cost of ownership.
Watson-Marlow is one of 230 businesses from across the UK to have been recognised for its contribution to innovation, international trade, sustainable development or promoting opportunity in this year’s Queen’s Awards.

Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc’s 2016 Annual Report Wins Award
Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc’s 2016 Annual Report has won the “Annual Report of the Year (FTSE250)” award in the ICSA (Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators) Awards 2017 and was shortlisted in the “Board Disclosure of the Year” category.
Amongst other criteria, the Annual Report of the Year award recognises Annual Reports that tell the company’s story vividly, honestly and in their own unique way; omit nothing material; avoid the use of boilerplate; describe the business with thorough and relevant information; have a clear and logical flow; and are well written.
The Board Disclosure of the Year category recognises Annual Reports that deliver excellence in Corporate Governance Reporting, as demonstrated through a good explanation of the issues the Board faced during the year; detail on the skills of the Board, succession planning and induction; a strong Chairman’s statement; a description of the process around, outcomes and actions arising from Board evaluation; and an explanation of how the Board ensures that company culture is appropriate.
Nominations were not open for these awards. Winners were chosen by a panel of expert judges and were announced at an awards ceremony on 28th November 2017.

Two of Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group's UK businesses have together been honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2017, on Her Majesty’s 91st birthday.
Watson-Marlow Ltd and BioPure Technology Limited together win the Queen's Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2017. The award reflects the companies’ outstanding combined growth of over 75% in overseas sales over the 5 year judging period.
Watson-Marlow Ltd is headquartered in Falmouth in Cornwall and is a leading manufacturer of peristaltic pumps and tubing. BioPure Ltd is based in Portsmouth, Hampshire and specialises in the design and manufacture of fluid path components for use with Biopharmaceutical processes.
Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group is one of 176 businesses from across the UK to have been recognised for an outstanding contribution to international trade, innovation, sustainable development or promoting opportunity.
Quantum pump from Watson-Marlow wins Best Technological Innovation award at Interphex 2017
On 21st March 2017, Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group won the Best Technological Innovation Award at the International Pharmaceutical Expo, in New York City, for its revolutionary new Quantum pump. The award recognises cutting-edge technologies that have the potential to change the way pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies operate.
The Quantum peristaltic pump, with patented ReNu single use Technology Cartridge sets a new standard for high-pressure feed pumps in single use tangential flow filtration, virus filtration and high-performance liquid chromatography. Quantum represents a step-change in pump technology for bioprocessing by enabling higher downstream process yields throughout the pressure range, delivering virtually pulse free linear flow, low shear and easy validation.

Spirax Sarco China, British Business Award Finalist
The British Business Awards are a unique showcase for outstanding UK companies in China. Organised by the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai, the Awards recognise and promote excellence in innovation, enterprise and endeavour in the British and Chinese business communities.
On 6th September 2016, Spirax Sarco Engineering (China) Ltd was shortlisted as a finalist in the Sustainable Business Award category, in acknowledgement of the company’s outstanding commitment to improving their customers’ sustainability, their support for the education of young engineers and their drive to continuously improve the sustainability of their own operations.
The winners were announced at a Gala Awards Dinner on 3rd November 2016, in Shanghai. Although narrowly missing out on the top spot, Spirax Sarco was praised by the judges for its passion and commitment to sustainability.
Spirax Sarco e-learning team recognised for excellence
The Spirax Sarco e-learning team has been recognised as one of the best in the country, having made the final in the prestigious category of "Team of the Year" at the 2015 National E-Learning Awards.
This very competitive category, which included finalists from Honda, Travis Perkins and the Defence School of Aeronautical Engineering, was independently and rigorously judged against the highest standards of excellence. The National E-Learning Awards only recognise organisations that offer the highest quality of e-learning. Making the final and being “highly commended” by the judges is testament to the outstanding work and commitment of the Company’s e-learning team.
The extensive knowledge of Spirax Sarco’s employees is central to the Company’s ability to offer value to customers and is a key source of commercial differentiation. The Learning & Development team has created of a library of over 100 outstanding e-learning courses which support and supplement on-the-job and formal training, which is offered in the Company’s 40 steam training centres around the world.
Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc wins Excellence in International Trade award
At an awards ceremony held in Bristol on 21st May 2015, Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc received Insider Media’s top award for Excellence in International Trade in the South West region, in recognition of the Company’s outstanding success in international markets.
Spirax Sarco reported revenue of £678 million, with 90% of turnover generated outside of the UK, during 2014. The Company, which has its international headquarters in Cheltenham, UK, has a direct sales presence in 55 countries on six continents and employees approximately 1,300 people in the UK and over 3,400 overseas.
Spirax Sarco’s strong global presence is a result of decades of investment in building easily recognisable brands that symbolise expertise and reliability and is a consequence of achieving a first-to-market advantage from early entry into emerging markets. During the last five years the Company has opened 15 new territories for direct sales for either the Spirax Sarco steam business or Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group.
To be shortlisted for the award, companies needed to demonstrate that they “have continued to innovate, faced down challenges, and developed opportunities that have delivered sustainable growth… and demonstrated excellence in their sector.”

Spirax Sarco ranked as the top UK engineering company for graduates
Spirax Sarco has been ranked as the number one UK company for graduates to work for in the Engineering and Manufacturing Industry 2015/2016 and 10th in the top 100 companies for graduates to work for overall. The awards were presented to Spirax Sarco in the small graduate intake category (less than 30 graduates annually) by TheJobCrowd, the UK’s leading graduate job review website.
The awards are based on thousands of anonymous reviews collected from recently graduated employees who provide information on a range of key topics, including average salaries, working hours, benefits packages and job satisfaction. This information is then used to rank companies within their industry and across the UK. TheJobCrowd is used extensively by undergraduates to judge the graduate job market, receive updates on recruitment events, and seek application and interview advice.
This is a fantastic achievement for Spirax Sarco and recognises the company’s market leading Graduate Development Programme.
Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc receives a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation
Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc has received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation – the UK’s highest accolade for business success – for the design and manufacture of a novel flowmeter.
The Spirax Sarco TVA flowmeter is a revolutionary alternative to traditional steam flow measurement. The device provides reliable, accurate and cost-effective steam metering, combined with quick and easy installation, across a range of industries worldwide. The flowmeter incorporates a proprietary sensor and unique mathematical algorithms.

Spirax Sarco Inc. (USA) receives safety award
Spirax Sarco has received a Commendation of Excellence award from the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce for its exemplary safety record at its two sites, located in Blythewood, South Carolina.
Kris Brown, Safety Environmental & Training Supervisor, Supply said, "Receiving this award from the Chamber of Commerce is a great honor. This is proof of everyone's dedication to improving our safety culture.”
On 19 March 2015, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce recognised business leaders and employees from across the state at their annual Safety Awards luncheon. The awards were given to companies and organisations that achieved a commendable lost workday case rate during the 2014 calendar year, including any occupational injury or illness resulting in an employee being unable to work a full assigned work shift. Spirax Sarco achieved a remarkable safety record of zero lost time accidents or reportable health and safety incidents during 2014.
Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc’s Annual Report and Accounts 2013 recognised for excellence
Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc’s Annual Report and Accounts 2013 has been placed in the top 10 within the category “Excellence in reporting in the FTSE 250”, at the Building Public Trust Awards, 2014.
The assessment criteria for the Building Public Trust Awards are based on the principles of good quality reporting: “better – not more – information; linkage between the information provided and the stated strategy; quantified data that supports the qualitative statements made; metrics that, where relevant, illustrate performance against peers; and, where appropriate, a statement of future ambition”.
The attributes of excellence in corporate reporting are embedded in a benchmarking tool that is used by PricewaterhouseCoopers to evaluate companies for the Building Public Trust Awards. The benchmarking process generates a shortlist that is subsequently evaluated by an independent judging panel.

Spirax Sarco Ltd (UK) wins export Business Award 2014
Spirax-Sarco Ltd, a subsidiary of Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc, won the Export Award in the Gloucestershire Echo and Gloucestershire Citizen Business Awards 2014. The award recognises a company that has generated substantial, and sustained, increases in export activity.
Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc has a direct sales presence in over 55 countries worldwide and since 2011, has established new operating companies in several countries, including the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates, and has commenced direct selling in Cambodia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Myanmar and Peru.
While we manufacture close to point of sale in Europe, Asia, North and South America, our manufacturing site in Cheltenham is the Group’s largest facility and from it we export our products globally. Over £25 million has been invested in the site in recent years and from it we ship over 500 tonnes of Spirax Sarco steam specialties products worldwide each month.
Spirax Sarco Inc. (USA) recognised as PepsiCo “Supplier of the Year”
Spirax-Sarco Inc. (USA), a subsidiary of Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc, received a 2014 “Supplier of the Year” award from PepsiCo.
PepsiCo’s Supplier of the Year awards are a prestigious honour that the company bestows on its most prized suppliers in recognition of outstanding performance.
Because of this esteemed award, Spirax Sarco was invited to sit in on PepsiCo’s five year strategic sustainability planning sessions. At the 2014 planning session, 60 members of PepsiCo’s sustainability leadership team were present. The planning session produced ideas for future sustainability efforts for PepsiCo and an even stronger partnership opportunity with Spirax Sarco.
Watson-Marlow’s Qdos 30 pump wins award
Every two years since 1964, Chemical Processing, have bestowed Vaaler Awards on products and services that can significantly improve plant operations and economics. Products are also assessed for their technical significance, novelty or uniqueness and breadth of applicability. Chemical Processing chose to honour five products during 2013, one of which was the Qdos 30 pump from Watson-Marlow.
The Qdos 30 pump, launched in the USA in June 2013, provides accurate, linear and repeatable metering under varying process conditions. Qdos 30 pumps also offer several advantages over diaphragm pumps: the initial system expenditure is reduced as Qdos doesn’t require ancillary items such as backpressure valves, degassing valves, pulsation dampener, foot valves and strainers; there are no valves or seals to clog, leak or corrode; the pump will not gas lock; the patented ReNu pump head provides easy no-tools replacement; and operational expenditure is minimised as the Qdos pump reduces maintenance downtime.

Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc’s 2012 Annual Report and Accounts has been shortlisted in the ISCA (Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators) Transparency in Governance Awards 2013, in the category “Best Board Disclosure”.
Now in their fifth year, the ISCA Transparency in Governance Awards recognise companies’ “commitment to improve transparency and accountability through their annual reporting and accounts”.

Spirax Sarco’s VLM10 Inline Vortex Mass Flowmeter receives honourable mention
Spirax Sarco's VLM10 Inline Vortex Mass Flowmeter has been awarded an honourable mention in Control Engineering Magazine's 2013 Engineers' Choice Awards, which recognise the best new control, instrumentation and automation products in the industry.
The VLM10 is suitable for measuring a wide range of fluids including saturated and superheated steam, single-phase liquids and other gases. The technology combines an inline vortex meter, a built in flow computer and an integral temperature sensor, giving customers an elegant all in one solution for their metering needs.
The fully welded, no gasket design, ensures safe measurement of steam and allows the flow and temperature sensors to be removed without having to shut down the line. The built-in technology allows customers to monitor flow and meter health electronically, from one central computer.
Watson-Marlow Ltd wins “West of England Business of the Year” award
Watson-Marlow Ltd, a subsidiary of Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc, was awarded the prestigious PwC 2013 West of England Business of the Year Award at an awards ceremony in Bristol on 4th July 2013.
The award acknowledges various aspects of business achievement, such as financial performance, product and service innovation, business management, training, future prospects and contribution to the region. The judges were impressed by Watson-Marlow's outstanding financial performance – an average of 22% profit has been achieved over the last five years – as well as its commitment to both business and product innovation.
Nick Morgan, PwC tax partners and chair of the judges for this category, said: “Watson-Marlow impressed the judges with its historic growth trends, the pride and passion its people have for what they do and its future outlook based on continual investment in R&D and product innovation”.

Spirax Sarco Engineering China ltd wins prestigious energy saving award
At the China Energy Saving Award Ceremony, held in Beijing on 21st May 2013, Spirax Sarco Engineering (China) ltd, a subsidiary of Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc, won the “2013 China Outstanding Energy Saving Technology Award” for the company’s high temperature condensate water recycling technology. This is the third time that Spirax Sarco has won the national level award in the energy saving field since the first award ceremony was held in 2010.
The award ceremony was organised by the China Energy Conservation Association and the High-tech Expo Organizing Committee of the China Energy Strategy Forum, and is designed to highlight progress made in energy savings in China, in line with the country’s 12th Five-Year Plan, which aims to reduce China’s energy intensity (energy consumption per unit of GDP) by 16 per cent, 2011-2015.

Spirax Sarco ranks as 15th Best Place to Work in Mexico
For the fifth year in a row Spirax Sarco has received recognition as being one of the 100 Best Places to Work in Mexico. Spirax Sarco was first included in the 100 Best Places to Work awards during 2009, when it ranked 79th in the country. Since then it has steadily climbed up the rankings to be positioned as the 15th Best Place to Work in Mexico, in 2013.
The award defines a Great Place to Work as one where employees trust the people they work for; have pride in what they do and enjoy the people they work with; and where managers achieve organisational objectives, have employees who give their personal best and who work together as a team.
